Making tesla coil

A tesla coil high voltage resonant transformer which can be used to produce long electrical discharges. It is important to know several terms when making a tesla coil.

The materials needed include: a power supply transformer, a spark gap assembly, high capacitance primary and secondary capacitors, high and low inductance primary inductor coils, 4 L brackets and bolts.

A neon sign transformer can be used. Secondly, make a capacitor by making five layers of polystyrene sheets alternating with 4 metal plates. Make holes in 4 pieces of PVC pipe and thread the wire through the holes to form a primary coil.

Mount a door knob on top of secondary coil to act as a discharge terminal. Then set the secondary coil into primary coil and fix them at the centre of a piece of flat wood. The remaining 4 PVC pipes should be attached to the other side of the wood. Also attach the chokes and spark gaps on the side that has the door knob. A ground rod should then be wired from the chokes to the primary coil.

Care should be taken when making tesla coil and should not be made by people without knowledge on electricity.
